At the moment there is two branch from development 3G, that is from side GSM (Global System For Mobile Communication) pioneered by 3G Partnership Project and CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) pioneered by 3G Partnership Project 2 ( 3GPP2). Both technology do not compatible and have competition.
One of the reason why service 3G can give the throughput larger ones is because technological usage spectrum spread over conducive input data which transmission will disseminated in all frequency spectrum. Besides getting broad band larger ones, service base on the spectrum spread over much more peaceful than timeslot or frequency slot.
Network 3G not represent to upgrade from 2G; operator 2G which affiliate by 3GPP needing to change many components to be able to give the service 3G. While operator 2G which affiliate technologically 3GPP2 easier in upgrading to 3G because various its network element have made to up at service of no cable broad band (broadband wireless).
